Notes

This was something I wrote a while ago as part of a project featuring queer relationships in Star Trek. I hadn't thought to post it before today, but I figured I might as well. I do hope to write more fan poetry at some point.

Echoes of Association

I carry you with me, my love,
deep beneath my skin.
They may have taken you from me,
but they cannot erase your imprint.

I will not dwell on what will not be,
but I mourn what we could have been,
if not for our circumstances,
if not for faceless tradition.

Sometimes I think: if only they knew,
if they felt as we have done,
then they would not, could not,
declare our love to be wrong.

But other times I wonder, perhaps,
if they have felt it, at one time,
and it is not the unknown that scares them,
but knowledge of what they left behind.
